Flea Control

Fleas are undoubtedly the most common external parasite with which we have to deal; as sure as day follows night, dogs and cats are exposed to fleas. These little parasites might jump on to your pet from the environment or from another animal, but whichever it is, you had best hope that the flea concerned is not a pregnant female flea! If that happens to be the case then you can expect to have the patter of tiny insect feet around the house followed by a rather itchy pet. It is fair to say that the occasional single flea is not a particular problem, but when one flea becomes many fleas and those fleas are established in the living quarters of the dog or cat, that is when the problems start. For this reason, it becomes vital when trying to control fleas that the environment of the pet is treated as well as the pet him- or herself.

The options for control include six-monthly Program injections for cats, monthly Program by mouth for dogs or cats, spot-ons for dogs and cats, and household sprays. We do not recommend shampoos for controlling fleas.

We can discuss the best control method for any particular pet or pets, because what is best for one pet is not necessarily the best – or even practical at all – for another.
